World Yoga Day will be celebrated this weekend at Aquamoves in an effort to raise money for Give Me 5 For Kids.

The annual celebration of the physical, mental and spiritual practice falls on Wednesday, June 21.

A group of Shepparton yoga teachers have come together to hold an introductory yoga class on Sunday at noon and a meditation class on Friday, June 23 at 6.45pm.

One of the event’s organisers, Craig Veysey, said the $5 classes at Aquamoves on Tom Collins Dve would go towards Goulburn Valley Health’s child and adolescent unit and special care nursery.

‘‘We usually try and give some money to someone — that’s what it’s all about, to try and get people to come and try yoga for the first time and give back to the community,’’ he said.

‘‘World Yoga Day happens in June and the Give Me 5 For Kids appeal goes through June, so I figured it would be a good little cause.’’

While spaces for the yoga class are limited to 70, the meditation session is open to all and attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or cushion for comfort.

‘‘The whole idea is if people are seasoned yogis that they bring along a friend or loved one who has never done yoga before; this is the perfect opportunity for them to do a beginners class,’’ Mr Veysey said.

‘‘We’re just going to do a general introductory class so people can get a little taste of it and see if they like it.’’

The World Yoga Day celebration class will take place from noon at Aquamoves on Sunday, June 18 at a cost of $5 per person.

The meditation class will be held the following Friday, June 23 from 6.45pm per person at Aquamoves at a cost of $5 per person.
