A new expert taskforce will identify ways to strengthen the role of Victoria’s community health sector.

Chaired by former Plenty Valley Community Health chief executive Phillip Bain, the taskforce will include community health service members, Victorian Healthcare Association representatives and other key organisations and service users.

Cobram District Health interim chief executive Jacque Phillips said health services would be actively involved in the process.

‘‘Cobram will participate in the taskforce as requested. It is a statewide review and we will contribute information and data to ensure that rural health is well represented to strengthen community health and improve health outcomes locally,’’ she said.

The taskforce, which is being established by the Victorian Government, will work with the sector and others to identify a shared vision for the role and priorities for community health now and into the future.

Community health services offer a range of programs and services which keep people happy and healthy or out of hospital as well as playing a pivotal role in preventing chronic diseases.
