Good work: Tallygaroopna Lions secretary Rod Taylor, president Robin Close and Variety Bash Volunteers John McRae and John McCarroll.

Australia’s largest and longest running charity motoring event Variety Bash ventured to Tallygaroopna last week — to thank the Lions Club for their donation.

Variety Bash volunteers John McRae and John McCarroll presented the service group with a certificate and thanks for donating $500 to their cause.

Tallygaroopna Lions Club member Audrey Hurst said Variety Bash was a worthy because it was a completely volunteer-run event.

‘‘They do it all on their own back ... they don’t know if they’re going left or right ... but they have fun doing it,’’ she said.

The fundraising event is all about supporting Australian children, with participants driving to remote and regional parts of Australian delivering education, health and mobility equipment.

Mrs Hurst said the volunteers told the service group about their journey last year and stressed the fact ‘‘every little bit helps’’.

Variety Bash gave away more than $160000 on the road last year and this year it will be raising money for schools and organisations in Western Australia.
