After 60 years of marriage it is clear Neil and Deirdre Young love each other as much as the day they wed.
The pair remembered the day they married on January 4, 1958.
‘‘It was a very hot day,’’ Mrs Young said.
After meeting one another when they worked at WB Hunter in High St, the couple soon fell in love.
The pair said their nuptials were held at Wesley Church with a reception to follow at Wesley Hall.
Joined by about 70 friends and family members during the weekend, the pair celebrated the milestone as well as Mrs Young’s 80th birthday.
‘‘It’s so special,’’ Mr Young said.
‘‘I didn’t know we had so many relatives and friends.’’
Mrs Young said it was lovely to have all their family under one roof for a happy occasion.
The Youngs were joined by some of their bridal party, with Mrs Young’s going away dress and bridesmaid dress proudly displayed on the wall in the GV Hotel’s function room.
Kath Ison was Mrs Young’s bridesmaid, while Mr Young was joined by his brother Les Young, who was one of his groomsmen.
Mrs Young said the highlight of their marriage was the birth of their three sons.
‘‘Our sons David, Rowan and Andrew were born in 1962, 1964 and 1967,’’ she said.
The Youngs have played a huge role in the Shepparton community during the years, both having grown up on an orchard, before coming together to run business Youngs and Co Real Estate.
Mr Young said the key to their long and happy marriage was tolerance.
‘‘It’s all about give and take,’’ he said.
Mrs Young thanked their son Andrew and daughter-in-law Samantha for organising the get-together as well as businesses Cake Matters, The Florist on Fryers, Shepparton Party Supplies and the GV Hotel.
