The pair owns MacIsaac Road Takeaway which has taken the ‘Best fish and chips in the GV’ title, voted online by News readers in a poll at www.sheppnews.com.au

‘‘We were so surprised to learn we had even been nominated,’’ Mrs Jong said.

‘‘That was already a win for us, it is great to be recognised.’’

The couple bought the Mooroopna takeaway store three years ago after learning the ins and outs from other family members, who own Billy Burgers in Nagambie and King St Takeaway and Milkbar in Shepparton.

And it seems the pair has had no trouble leaving a mark on the community, taking out the poll with flying colours.

When asked what goes into making quality fish and chips, Mrs Jong said the answer was simple — good products which were freshly made.

‘‘Our fish and chips are made fresh to order,’’ she said.

‘‘We make it how we would want to eat it and if we’re not happy with it we won’t serve it.’’

While Mrs Jong said the fish variety flake was always popular, hake was the biggest seller at the moment.

Along with fish and chips, people can indulge in other hot food, sandwiches and sweet treats.

‘‘We take extra pride and care with what we make,’’ Mrs Jong said.

‘‘We have great customers and we thank them so much for the huge support they have shown us.’’

The business is a family affair, with the couple’s eight children helping out by serving customers and handling money whenever needed.

‘‘It has been a great experience for our kids because it has taught them about money, how to speak to people and be respectful to others,’’ Mrs Jong said.

With the win under their belt, Mr and Mrs Jong hope to keep doing what they love and continue serving quality fish and chips for many years to come.
