It was a conversation regarding Shepparton’s perceived lack of decent food that prompted Michelle Davies to start her Instagram page SheppEats.
‘‘Someone from out of town said there’s nowhere good to eat in Shepparton,’’ Ms Davies said.
‘‘But we’ve got an abundance of good restaurants so I started the page to showcase our local restaurants, cafes and eateries.’’
The Mooroopna local began posting on SheppEats in August 2016 and has since steadily gained a following.
She posts images of meals from district eateries, making sure to give the business a shout out, letting her followers know where she purchased each meal from.
‘‘On the weekends I’ll be out and about with my niece and nephew so it’s a nice excuse to get new content,’’ she said.
Ms Davies uses her iPhone to take the images, something she said she had not really delved into previously.
‘‘I haven’t really taken photos of food before,’’ she said.
‘‘My sister and I have enjoyed taking photos of landscapes.’’
The pretty plating from several Goulburn Valley restaurants is incredibly eyecatching, which Ms Davies couples with photos from the orchard where she works in Lemnos, promoting all that the food bowl has to offer.
‘‘For one thing, we’ve got a lot of great fresh produce in the area,’’ she said.
Ms Davies said although she didn’t have a huge amount of followers, she hoped the page would continue to grow, even prompting people to visit the Goulburn Valley.
‘‘I’d be keen to work with other pages,’’ she said.
‘‘If people or businesses want to hashtag #SheppEats then I could look at sharing their images on my page.’’
Ms Davies said Instagram was a fantastic way for local eateries and businesses in general to market themselves, and if they had their own page she would tag them in the post.
