With winter well under way, scarves have come out and woolen jumpers are making a return.
It is always exciting when seasons change and fashion evolves to suit the change in weather conditions.
I have never been one for winter fashion; give me a cute playsuit and some lace-up sandals any day.
However, this winter my thoughts have changed and I am slowly starting to embrace the ability to experiment with layers and textures to achieve an end goal: a look that is warm yet fashionable.
Scrolling through Instagram and flicking through pages of the latest magazines, there are a number of trends that stand out this winter.
One that I am a huge fan of is fur; whether that be a fur jacket, fur scarf or even the odd fur gloves.
Winter is really the only time of the year when you can wear faux fur, so why not embrace the trend and make the most of what can be a very warm option for those chilly winter mornings.
Fur can come in all textures and colours, ranging from traditional brown or light grey, to quirky emerald green and deep red.
While it is definitely a statement piece, it is one that will never go out of style.
It doesn’t have to be expensive either, you can pick up a reasonably priced fur jacket, vest or throw to add an element of excitement to any look this winter.
If a fur jacket is not your style, try incorporating the trend through accent pieces like fur collars or fur mittens to add a statement touch to your winter get up.
Another trend that has graced the cover of fashion magazines for decades is leather, and it looks to stay this way for many more years to come.
Ever since I first watched Grease with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, I have had a love for leather jackets and the rocker-chic look they give.
Leather is definitely something worth investing in.
Take time to find yourself a good quality leather jacket, skirt or pair of pants and they will become a staple item in your wardrobe for years to come.
Even as the seasons change, leather can still be incorporated into your everyday wear.
As the weather starts to warm, a floral summer dress paired with a leather jacket is the ultimate spring night-out look.
One thing to remember when searching for the perfect piece of leather this winter is that it doesn’t have to always be black.
Leather jackets in pale pink or grey would look great paired with light blue denim jeans, or a maroon or khaki leather skirt can be paired perfectly with some tights and black heeled boots.
Lastly, the checkered stripes of the well known plaid print have caught my eye this season.
Traditional tartan and heritage tweeds have been reinvented by some of the biggest names in the fashion industry.
While the iconic print has previously not been a go to for my winter wardrobe, this year I am working to incorporate some key pieces into my style.
One of this season’s number one must-haves is a plaid blazer.
The classic style graced catwalks around the world before making its way into clothing boutiques and retail chains.
The timeless pattern lends a sense of sophistication to any look.
Throw a plaid blazer over a pair of black leather pants and a silky white shirt and you are ready to take on the world.
If blazers are not your thing, incorporate the style through dresses, pants or even a coat to give your winter wardrobe a revamp.
The trend can even be taken one step further, with a matching plaid dress, skirt or jacket combo worn with tights and boots to prove you are a fashion icon.
