Small Longwood East winery Maygars Hill has been recognised by renowned wine expert James Halliday in his recent top 50 red wine list.
The winery, located within the Strathbogie Winery Region, was awarded the gong for its 2016 Reserve Shiraz.
Owner and operator Jenny Houghton said she was delighted to stand with the other awardees chosen by Mr Halliday's national top 50 reds, priced over $30.
"It's also a great opportunity to recognise the role of viticulture in producing a stand-out wine," she said.
"Great practices in the vineyard are a significant part of the story.
"This little patch of dirt in the Strathbogie foothills of Victoria is delivering way beyond it's due."
Maygars Hill Winery and Vineyard contains six acres of shiraz and cabernet grapes which Ms Houghton hand-prunes herself.
"As I approach pruning, I'm mindful of each vine and what it looks like; it needs to be health and happy for the next growing season," she said.
"I was able to work with ideal weather conditions this season."
Mr Halliday said it was the best Reserve Shiraz Maygars had produced to date in his tasting notes.
