View is a major drawcard

There is no better time to explore the great outdoors than a sunny winter’s day.
With the sun breaking through from behind the clouds, I decided a hike was the perfect way to escape the impending lazy Sunday Netflix binge.
I set out towards Dookie for Mount Major — just 30 minutes out of town, nestled between Shepparton and Benalla.
Up and over the stile and I was on my way.
It’s a steep climb with a well-marked and sealed track to the top.
After meeting a few sheep along the way, the plateau is a picturesque place to take a breather and soak up views of farmland and mountains in the distance.
Completing the 6.4km trek takes about an hour but the trip down certainly does not take as long.
Standing at 381m above sea level this little adventure will work up an appetite.
The summit is the ideal spot to enjoy a picnic or, once you’re back down, pop in and visit the Tallis Wine cellar door — only a five-minute drive from the base of Mount Major.
