A Year 2 student’s desire to help the homeless at Christmas has grown 15-fold with yesterday’s donation of hundreds of items to the Salvation Army.
Three years ago, Shepparton Christian College student Noah Moore, now 10, ran a campaign to source items for Christmas hampers for the underprivileged.
College spokesperson Kristen Doherty recalls about 50 items were received.
The project has since grown, until this year Noah’s entire class of Years 4 and 5 students got involved.
‘‘This year they had a goal of 550 items. They ended up getting 754 items,’’ Ms Doherty said.
‘‘They had non-perishables, baby goods and special Christmas items. It’s just a great collection.’’
The goods, sourced from school families and a few local businesses, were handed over to the Salvation Army yesterday.
‘‘The students sent out letters to local businesses who kindly donated some products,’’ Ms Doherty said, singling out SPC Ardmona and Anytime Fitness Shepparton for thanks.
