A treat for district bird lovers

Birds of all breeds and colours will be on show at the Shepparton Bird Expo this month.

A special treat for bird lovers, the expo also includes the sale of multiple bird species and a range of avian products, including feeds and supplements.

Avicultural Society of Australia Goulburn Valley Branch president Mark Reynolds said everything people needed for their pet bird would be available on the day.

‘‘Everything from a zebra finch to a macaw, budgies and canaries for the beginners through to many species for the specialist, aviaries, toys, medicines and leg rings,’’ he said.

This year will include the major prize raffle of a suspended aviary from Thomsons Aviaries.

For bird lovers who want to meet in a less formal setting, the club is hosting drinks at the Sherbourne Terrace, Wyndham St, Shepparton, on the Saturday night.

‘‘Starting from 6pm, get together, catch up with friends, find out the latest news and talk about birds for as long as you like,’’ Mr Reynolds said.

The Shepparton Bird Expo is on Sunday, May 19, in the multi-purpose pavilion at Shepparton Showgrounds. Entry is $5 and free for school-aged children. The commercial areas to buy bird cages and seed open at 9.30am and the bird sale and display starts at 11am and runs until 2pm. For information or to book a table, phone Darren Toll on 54800098.
