For what seemed like an age, there was one unanswered question on everyone’s lips when it comes to Shepparton’s nightlife — was there a spot to throw caution to the wind and relax for a few hours while indulging in some aural pleasures?
Downtown, a new and sophisticated space where comfort has no boundaries, is the answer to that question.
Located at 47a High St, Downtown is a hub for those who want to join a friend for a relaxed, moody glass of wine among acoustic solace within the company of other cultured individuals.
No stranger to the bar game, owner Frankie Lagana knows the ins and outs of running a successful business, having pioneered The Deck franchise in Shepparton, Echuca, Geelong and Ballarat.
But for Frankie and his staff, Downtown is a whole other entity completely separate to the buzzing scene down Maude Street Mall and is aimed at charming an older demographic.
“Shepparton really doesn’t have anything like this, somewhere two people can come and have a quiet drink and a chat with a little bit of background music,” Downtown employee Justin Milic said.
“I love it, Maddy (bar manager Maddy Fotia) loves it and Frankie loves it, so I am expecting everyone to enjoy it.”
Having worked alongside Frankie at The Deck during the past few years, Justin has spent the better part of six months behind the scenes getting Downtown up and running.
A 180-degree pirouette from its previous housing, the old Yahoo Bar, Justin has completely gutted the interior and exterior from head to toe to transform its formerly dingy aura into one which exudes classical elegance.
With chesterfield sofas sprawling from wall to wall and a traditional beer garden accessible upstairs adding a summery element to the establishment, Downtown’s opulent décor paired with good food and drink is a winning combination destined for success.
“We want people to be comfortable, where they can sit down for five hours and just chill out” Maddy said.
